Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about bringing a visitor to your hotel room in Colombia – fees, ID rules, the best neighborhoods and how to stay safe.
What does “guest-friendly hotel” mean?
A guest-friendly hotel lets you bring a visitor to your room without charging a guest fee or making you upgrade to a double room. Visitors usually register with an ID at the front desk.
Do guest-friendly hotels charge a visitor fee?
The hotels on GuestFriendlyStay do not charge a visitor fee according to our checks. Many other hotels charge for an “extra person” or require a double room. Policies can change, so check the guest policy and the latest reviews on each hotel page, or confirm with the hotel before booking.
Does my visitor need an ID?
Yes, almost always. Hotels in Colombia register visitors at reception with a valid ID (Colombian cédula or passport), and visitors must be adults. This is standard practice and protects you, your guest and the hotel.
Can my visitor stay overnight?
Often yes, but some hotels register an overnight visitor as an additional guest, which can change the price. Each hotel page shows whether overnight stays are confirmed. If in doubt, ask at check-in or confirm with the hotel in advance.
Which neighborhoods in Colombia are best for guest-friendly hotels?
It depends on the city:
- Bogotá: Chicó, Zona T and El Virrey for nightlife on foot; Chapinero for good value; La Candelaria for history; Salitre / El Dorado Airport for short stopovers.
- Medellín: El Poblado around Parque Lleras and Provenza for nightlife on foot; Manila for a quieter stay nearby; Laureles for a relaxed, local feel.
- Cartagena: Getsemaní for nightlife on foot and good value; the Walled City for colonial atmosphere; La Matuna for a central budget stay; Bocagrande for the beach.
- Cali: San Antonio for colonial charm and low prices; Granada for restaurants and the riverside; San Fernando near Parque del Perro for bars on foot.
How do I know a hotel is really guest-friendly?
Every hotel page shows the guest policy, the date it was last checked and a verification level: Personally Verified, Hotel Verified, Source Verified or Traveler Reported. The “Guest check” shows how many travelers were able to bring a visitor without problems. After your stay, add your own review.
Is it safe to bring a visitor to my hotel in Colombia?
With a few precautions, yes. Only invite adults (18+), lock cash, passport and valuables in the room safe, never accept a drink you did not see being prepared (drugging with scopolamine is a known risk), and use app-based taxis at night. The ID check at reception is an extra layer of protection.
Where can I find companions in Colombia?
Independent companions in Colombia mostly advertise on Colombian classified sites. These are external websites that we do not operate or check. Only meet adults (18+), and read the safety tips above before you invite anyone to your hotel.
